Wildfire Risk — A Town Surrounded by Forest

activewoodside
Woodside sits in one of the most wildfire-exposed settings of any incorporated municipality in the Bay Area — ringed by forested hillsides, a large Stanford landholding, and the San Francisco watershed, with limited evacuation routes through steep terrain. The Woodside Fire Protection District (WFPD) is one of the most proactive fire agencies on the Peninsula, and the town's emergency preparedness programs are well-developed — but the underlying exposure is significant and growing. The WFPD launched online scheduling for home fire risk inspections in early 2026 — a meaningful step toward proactive home hardening — and the town's monthly newsletter regularly features wildfire preparedness reminders, smoke alarm checks, and vegetation management guidance. Stanford's annual fuel management work on its Alpine Road property directly benefits Woodside's adjacent neighborhoods. The same Old La Honda Road construction referenced in the town's January 2026 newsletter affects emergency access routes that would be critical during a wildfire evacuation.
