September Updates from Around District 3
*A Note From District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter*
45 New Trees in D3
( https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcrfEheyNok/?stkn=MWFtcG9jZnZ1OXh2eA==&utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sendgrid.com )
We recently planted 45 new trees with a special focus along Polk Street and Nob Hill! Keep an eye out for these new trees along Washington, Sacramento, Clay, Hyde, and Leavenworth. This planting was the result of our advocacy to get more trees in the ground across District 3 in partnership with Friends of the Urban Forest.
*With this planting, we’ve now planted more than 300 new trees in District 3 since I took office!* We’ll keep going, because our city gets better when we do small things like this that add up to stronger, healthier, more beautiful neighborhoods.
Thanks to the incredible Friends of the Urban Forest team and the dozens of volunteers that joined us for the planting!
Storefront Opportunity Grants: 8 New Small Businesses Opening!
( https://www.instagram.com/reel/Db6N44PB5LB/?stkn=enNzMHZrb2VwYnM5&utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sendgrid.com )
8 new small businesses are on their way to District 3 thanks to funding from the city’s Storefront Opportunity Grant. I’m so excited to see these grantees working towards their upcoming openings – including beloved Compton’s Coffee which is opening a new store later this month in Union Square, steps away from the Chinatown Gate at Grant & Bush.
This program works: it fuels small businesses and transforms vacant storefronts into thriving spaces. *I went to bat for this program during this year’s budget process, restoring nearly $300,000 in funding to make sure it kept going.* Thank you to OEWD for bringing this program to life.
Here are the 8 new storefronts in District 3 to look forward to opening soon:
🎊 Compton’s Coffee (Union Square) 🎊 McMullen (Union Square) 🎊 Nori Mori (Financial District) 🎊 Sur Cafe Mediterranean (Financial District) 🎊 Custom Fit (Embarcadero) 🎊 Hayati (Ferry Building) 🎊 Church California (Chinatown) 🎊 Fanoos Grill (North Beach)
New Red Transit-Only Lanes for the 1-California
( https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcmcE6PSYVO/?stkn=czgxcnV5MXBoaTRl&utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sendgrid.com )
We’re speeding up the 1-California (and 12-Pacific!) by adding Red Transit-Only Lanes to key blocks of Sacramento Street in the Financial District. This means faster buses and fewer conflicts and delays from cars. I’m so excited to see this major improvement to this core line serving Nob Hill, Chinatown, and Financial District.
I was happy to give a hand to the hardworking SFMTA crew by helping paint a block red! District 3 runs on transit, so I’m going to keep fighting for better service across all our neighborhoods.
Leading the Public Safety & Neighborhood Services Committee
I was honored to be recently named as the new Chair of the Board’s Public Safety & Neighborhood Services Committee. Today was our first committee meeting with me as Chair. I’m ready to get to work to use the role to shape better neighborhoods across San Francisco.
In the months ahead, we’ll hold hearings and consider legislation on topics that impact residents every single day, from enforcement against drug markets to street cleaning to tree maintenance to sidewalk conditions.
