This month is Transit Month, and as a daily Muni rider, I’m excited to share with you some impactful Muni service changes being implemented this week to improve the rider experience.
We’ve been working closely with SFMTA to make them aware of the need for more frequency and reliability on our busiest District 3 bus routes as we’ve seen increased ridership and more crowding.
Here’s a summary of the improved service that starts this week:
First, the *1-California* line. We’ve been hearing from constituents for months about crowding on this line, so we’ve been pushing extra hard for increased service here. Buses will now be arriving every 4-5 minutes between Downtown and the Presidio.
Two other busy lines will be improved, with the *38R-Geary Rapid* adding capacity during peak ridership times and the *49-Van Ness-Mission* increasing capacity during morning hours.
For Francisco Middle School students, a one-seat ride option on the *8-Bayshore* will now be offered in the morning for those coming from Visitacion Valley who previously had to transfer from the 8AX.
Outside of District 3, there are also upgrades you can look forward to. Along Market Street, the *5R-Fulton Rapid* will be upgrading all its buses to 60 footers that will be arriving every 10 minutes while the *N-Judah* will see trains arriving more often during peak service hours.
Transit is critically important to the economic health of our neighborhoods. It’s the lifeline of our city that helps so many of us get to work, school, the grocery store, and so much more everyday. By paying closer attention to the needs of our neighbors who ride Muni, we make our city a bit more accessible to families, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Thanks to SFMTA for listening to our constituents and working hard to improve the rider experience while keeping service reliable across the system.
See you on the bus, *Supervisor Danny Sauter*
