Bio

Teresa Castellanos has proudly served as a dedicated member of the San José Unified School District (SJUSD) Board of Education for 12 years and was recently re-elected for a fourth term. Throughout her tenure, Teresa has worked tirelessly to advocate for higher-quality education for students, leveraging her role as a Delegate to the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly for the past six years to stay engaged with legislation and educational advocacy.

A proud graduate of SJUSD and the mother of four SJUSD graduates, Teresa embodies the values and success of the district she represents. Her commitment to fostering parent involvement in schools stems from her personal experience and deep passion for community engagement. Teresa earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from National University and has spent over 35 years serving Santa Clara County’s diverse communities. For 27 years, she has worked as an Immigrant Services Coordinator with the County of Santa Clara Office of Immigrant Relations, where she has led initiatives promoting immigrant integration and inclusion.

Her leadership extends beyond her board responsibilities. Teresa has served as the SJUSD Board representative on the MetroED (Metropolitan Education District) Governing Board, which provides Career Technical Education (CTE) and Adult Education for high school and adult students in Santa Clara County. She has also represented the district on the Standing Advisory Committee on the Voluntary Integration Plan, the District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC), and the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education.
