Bio

A child of an immigrant single mother, Phoebe Venkat grew up in New Jersey and attended K-12 public schools. The first person in her family to attend college, Phoebe graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s degree. Phoebe began her professional career at a startup in New Jersey, and went on to work at several global companies across multiple industries including tech, pharma, and finance. Phoebe, her husband, and her son relocated from the East Coast to Foster City in 2014 when she took on a key role at San Francisco-based Salesforce. Since then, Phoebe has held roles at Facebook, Okta, and TripActions, as well as a strategic consultant to Fortune 5 companies.

Phoebe has been volunteering and serving the local communities where she lives and works for the majority of her life. Public service became an even higher priority to Phoebe after she survived life-altering medical issues related to contracting COVID-19 in the pre-vaccination days. While serving on the Foster City Planning Commission 2022-24, Phoebe had a consistent track record of driving equitable and data-driven outcomes. She is vice chair of the CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse) board, and previously served as its treasurer and finance committee head. Phoebe is also a founding executive boardmember of the San Mateo County Asian American Pacific Islander Alliance.

Phoebe was elected in November 2024, becoming the City’s first renter, HOA resident, and Chinese woman member of the City Council. She is passionate about addressing housing needs, environmental sustainability, empowering seniors and youth/young adults, and making Foster City a community where all people and businesses can thrive!
