In 2025, our focus will remain on addressing the needs of District 4 residents and tackling the challenges facing our city. Join Us For Swearing-In Ceremonies I’m honored to invite you to join me as I’m sworn in for my second term as your District 4 Councilmember at two special events this month. The first will be a Public Swearing-In Ceremony during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 14th, at 1:30 PM at San José City Hall, where BUSD Board Trustee Thelma Boac will administer the oath of office. For those who can’t make it downtown, I’ll also host a Community Swearing-In Ceremony on Friday, January 17th, as part of our D4 Stars Event at the Berryessa Community Center. I hope you’ll join us to celebrate this milestone together with neighbors and friends! D4 Stars Gala • Celebrate Our Community Join us from 6:00-8:00 pm, January 17th, 2025 at the Berryessa Community Center as we recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals and organizations doing amazing work in District 4. Check out the video from last year's District 4 Stars event Humane Society In Need of Donations Following last month's devastating fire , Humane Society Silicon Valley is in urgent need of clean, gently used or new towels and blankets. Donations can be dropped off starting at 10AM today at 901 Ames Avenue—please look for the signs on the doors marked “Get Acquainted Rooms.” Donations will be accepted daily from 10AM to 5PM until further notice. ••• Upcoming Events ••• D4 Stars Gala • Jan 17 Join us from 6:00-8:00 pm, January 17th, 2025 at the Berryessa Community Center as we recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals and organizations doing amazing work in District 4. MLK Luncheon • Jan 20 The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon is set to take place on Saturday, January 20th, at the San Jose State University Ballroom. This inspiring event celebrates Dr. King's legacy of justice, equality, and service, bringing the community together for a day of reflection and unity. Featuring keynote speakers, live performances, and a thoughtful program honoring local changemakers, the luncheon offers an opportunity to renew our collective commitment to Dr. King's vision. Join civic leaders, community members, and advocates in this meaningful gathering as we honor the past and work toward a brighter future More Information ••• Resources ••• Senior Nutrition Program • Berryessa Community Center The San Jose Senior Nutrition Pro gram at Berryessa Community Center provides nutritious meals and social activities for seniors aged 60 and older. The program promotes healthy living and offers opportunities for social interaction, reducing isolation while ensuring access to balanced, affordable meals. Senior Nutrition Program: In partnership with TRIO Senior Meals, provides meals to Older Adults 60+ at 13 community centers throughout the City. All meals served at community centers meet county health standards. - Monday - Friday: 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Contact: 408-251-6392 - Senior Nutrition Program Menu See Calendar and Menu Free Trees for District 4 Residents Our team is hard at work, pushing toward our goal of planting 1,000 trees by the end of Councilmember Cohen's first term in office. Free Junk Pick Up! We could all use a little extra space around the house this time of year, if you've got junk and clutter in your garage or yard, take advantage of this great FREE service from the City of San José!
